Perry Baker (born June 29, 1986) is an American former rugby sevens player whose speed made him the defining scorer of the USA Men's Sevens program. A former American football wide receiver whose 2011 stint with the Philadelphia Eagles ended with a knee injury, he joined the U.S. sevens residency program in 2014 at age 28 and played a decade for the Eagles Sevens. He was named World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year in 2017 and again in 2018, played at three Olympic Games — Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024 — and retired in October 2024 with 293 tries on the World Rugby Sevens Series, the most by an American and the second-most by any player in series history at his retirement, and 1,467 career points. He moved into coaching as an assistant with the U.S. men's sevens team.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0237. Firsts disposition: NO broad 'first' is asserted in the description. NBC Sports' 'first U.S. player to lead the World Series in tries (2016-17)' rests on that single source in this record and is recorded here rather than asserted; the two Player of the Year awards (2017, 2018), the three Olympics, and the 293-try total (most by an American, second all-time at retirement) are each supported by two or more sources here. His post-retirement playing stint in India's Rugby Premier League (2025, per Wikipedia) is outside this record's sevens scope and is not stated. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Baker arrived in sevens at 28 with a ruined knee and left as the most prolific American scorer the series has seen — a career that argues the U.S. pipeline misses its best athletes by looking too early.
