Walt Frazier (born March 29, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia), nicknamed "Clyde" for his style on and off the court, was the floor general of the New York Knicks' only championship teams. At Southern Illinois, Frazier won the 1967 National Invitation Tournament — then a major title — and its MVP award. Drafted fifth by the Knicks in 1967, he became a seven-time All-Star and seven-time All-Defensive First Team selection, and quarterbacked the 1970 and 1973 NBA championships. His Game 7 of the 1970 Finals — 36 points and 19 assists, overshadowed in memory by Willis Reed's entrance — stands among the greatest Finals performances. Frazier retired as the Knicks' all-time leader in points, assists, and games; the franchise retired his number 10, and a second career as the Knicks' rhyming broadcaster kept his voice in the building for decades. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987.

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0333. Firsts disposition: no 'first' asserted. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Frazier's two legacies rhyme — the 1970 Game 7 line and fifty years of 'swishing and dishing' are one continuous Knick record. Photo: CLEARED (1977 portrait, public domain).
