Maya Moore (born June 11, 1989, in Jefferson City, Missouri) assembled one of the most complete winning records in basketball, then walked away from it at her peak for criminal-justice reform. At the University of Connecticut, Moore won national championships in 2009 and 2010 during the Huskies' ninety-game winning streak and finished as the program's exemplar of the Auriemma era. The first pick of the 2011 WNBA draft, she won four championships with the Minnesota Lynx (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017), the 2013 Finals MVP, and the 2014 league MVP, alongside two Olympic gold medals (2012, 2016). In 2019, at twenty-nine, Moore stepped away from basketball to campaign for Jonathan Irons, whose conviction she believed unjust; Irons was freed in 2020, and the two married. Her retirement, announced formally in 2023, closed a career with a championship at every level. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0355. Firsts disposition: no 'first' asserted. The Irons case is carried in its documented sequence (advocacy, release in 2020, marriage) per the Hall of Fame and Wikipedia — stated as her advocacy and its outcome, with no legal characterization beyond the sources. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Moore's file refuses the usual shape — the most decorated winner of her generation chose a courtroom over a court, and the record honors both.
