Cheryl Miller (born January 3, 1964, in Riverside, California) was the defining player of the women's game's first national era. At Riverside Polytechnic High School she scored 105 points in a single game in 1982, a national-record performance that announced her before college. At USC she won NCAA championships in 1983 and 1984 — the first titles of the NCAA women's tournament era for the program — was a four-time All-American and three-time national player of the year, and led the United States to the 1984 Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles. Miller's combination of size, handle, and flair — a 6-foot-2 forward playing like a guard — reset expectations for the women's game, and her duels with the era's best were national television events. A knee injury ended her playing career before the WNBA existed; she became a pioneering broadcaster and coached USC (1993–95) and Cal State LA. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995, among the first women so honored, and is the older sister of Reggie Miller.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0357. Firsts disposition: the 105-point game is stated as the national-record performance the Hall of Fame describes; 'among the first women inducted' is carried modestly (women entered the Hall beginning 1992–93; Miller's 1995 class standing is stated without a 'first' claim). Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Miller is the proof of concept for everything the WNBA later sold — the audience existed a decade before the league did.
