Archie Moore was born Archibald Lee Wright on December 13 — the year is disputed in the sources themselves: Moore claimed 1916 and Collinsville, Illinois, while his mother Lorena Wright said 1913 and Benoit, Mississippi, and the International Boxing Hall of Fame lists December 13, 1913. He turned professional in 1936 and, after years as a leading middleweight and light heavyweight passed over for a title shot, won the light heavyweight championship from Joey Maxim in 1952 and held it for nearly a decade with nine title defenses, the Hall records. He dropped Rocky Marciano early in their 1955 heavyweight title fight before being stopped in the ninth round, lost a 1956 vacant-title fight to Floyd Patterson, and was stopped by Muhammad Ali in 1962 before retiring in 1963. His knockout record is carried only in attributed form: the Hall's biography text credits him with 141 knockout victims, its own totals line gives 184 wins, 24 losses, 10 draws and 1 no-contest with 130 knockouts in 219 bouts, and the Hall's inductee listing gives 185-23-10 with 131 knockouts. The Hall also records that Moore later worked as a trainer with a young Ali and with heavyweight champion George Foreman. He died December 9, 1998.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0459. Birth-year disposition (contested, both sides carried, never settled): Moore himself claimed December 13, 1916, in Collinsville, Illinois; his mother said December 13, 1913, in Benoit, Mississippi; the Hall lists 1913; BoxRec notes the 1920 census listing consistent with the earlier year. The era field carries 1913 as the Hall and Encyclopedia.com give it, with the dispute stated on the face of the description; Moore cultivated the ambiguity and joked he 'must have been 3 when I was born.' Knockout-total disposition (contested, carried split): Hall biography text 141; Hall totals line 130 KOs with a 184-24-10 (1 NC) record; Hall inductee listing 185-23-10 (131 KOs) — no single figure is asserted. The 1955 Marciano and 1962 Ali fights are carried as the Hall states them. Trainer disposition: the Hall records Moore worked as a trainer with a young Muhammad Ali and later with George Foreman; the two related_to edges in this packet rest on that trainer relationship alone, not on the 1962 Ali bout. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Moore is the longevity-and-knockouts record of the light heavyweight division, and the birth-year fog he maintained is itself part of the documented record. Relationships
- George Foreman — related to
The International Boxing Hall of Fame's Archie Moore biography records that Moore worked as a trainer 'later with heavyweight champion George Foreman' — a documented trainer relationship, not a bout, since the two never fought. - Muhammad Ali — related to
The International Boxing Hall of Fame's Archie Moore biography records that after retiring Moore remained active in boxing as a trainer and 'once worked with a young Ali' — a documented trainer relationship with Muhammad Ali, distinct from their 1962 bout, which is not the basis of this edge.
