Evidence note (master store)

George M. Pullman, head of the Pullman Palace Car Company, decided in 1879 to concentrate his manufacturing in a new plant and town; he purchased a large tract on the shore of Lake Calumet, where the 'Model City' of Pullman rose, and in 1880 the great plant went into active service with the residence town beside it (Chicago Tribune, Mar. 4, 1900).
