Thin Brief — a short evidence sketch, not a full research brief.
Launched on September 1, 1999 — years before MySpace or Facebook — BlackPlanet was one of the first large-scale social networks on Earth, and it was Black-owned in audience and in spirit. Its pages and forums hosted Black music, dating, and political talk; its founders were later cited by the MySpace founders as a model.
