King Oliver

King Oliver moved to Chicago in 1919, founded his Creole Jazz Band, and in 1922 sent for his protégé Louis Armstrong to join him. Oliver's Creole Jazz Band made its first records for Gennett in Richmond, Indiana, on April 5, 1923 — among the first important recordings by Black jazz musicians.
