CTL-E-0567 · Neighborhood · 1945

Verified evidence grade of this record

Chicago-style steppin' took shape on the South and West sides in the 1940s-1950s, evolving from the 'Bop' (a term used until the early 1970s, itself derived from east coast swing dances); college station WKKC 89.3 programmed steppers music as early as 1975, and WVAZ 102.7 FM gave it commercial radio footing in 1989.
