PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record

Micah Salkind is a scholar and curator whose book Do You Remember House? Chicago's Queer of Color Undergrounds (Oxford University Press, 2019) is the standard scholarly study of Chicago house music's emergence and memorialization. Based on archival research and extensive conversations with the music's makers in Chicago's clubs, parks, museums, and dance studios, the study centers Black and Brown queer DJs, promoters, and dancers as house's architects and frames the scene through queer-of-color critique. In this brief his work supplies the academic frame for the crowd's contribution: sanctuary, congregation, and collective worldmaking as documented social functions of the dancefloor.
