VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

XXXTentacion, born Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy on January 23, 1998, in Plantation, Florida, and raised largely in Lauderhill, was a rapper and singer who became a leading figure of the SoundCloud rap and emo-rap movements. He began posting music to SoundCloud in 2013, co-founded the Members Only collective, and broke through with the distorted single "Look at Me!" His debut studio album, 17 (2017), built around depression and isolation, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and its follow-up, ? (March 2018), debuted at No. 1. Onfroy's career was also marked by serious legal trouble, including domestic-abuse charges pending at his death. On June 18, 2018, at age 20, he was shot and killed during a robbery outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida. In the week after his death, "Sad!" rose to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first artist to top that chart posthumously as a lead artist since the Notorious B.I.G. in 1997, and the posthumous album Skins (2018) became his second No. 1 album.

Notes

Statistics: 17 debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 (2017), per Billboard reporting · ? debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (chart dated March 31, 2018), per Billboard via Stereogum · "Sad!" jumped 52–1 on the Hot 100 in the week after his death (48.9 million U.S. streams, week ending June 21, 2018, Nielsen Music via Billboard/Stereogum reporting) · Skins (2018) was his second No. 1 Billboard 200 album, per RIAA/discography reporting cross-checked 2026-10-15 · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: People who have passed get their flowers, and his belong here honestly: in five short years Onfroy turned private pain into a musical language a generation of young listeners recognized as their own, and the chart response after his death showed how deeply that connection ran. The record also holds, without emphasis or excuse, that he died facing domestic-abuse charges; tribute and truth are kept in the same frame. · Photo slot: CLEARED CANDIDATE — Wikimedia Commons File:Xxxtentacion (cropped).jpg, State of Florida / Florida Dept. of Corrections, Public domain, license verified from Commons API metadata on 2026-10-15; direct URL https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ee/Xxxtentacion_%28cropped%29.jpg ; not downloaded — visual pass follows merge per standing pattern. DIGNITY FLAG for the visual pass: the only rights-cleared Commons portrait found is a 2016 corrections mugshot; founder may prefer the slot be HELD for a non-custodial image rather than lead a tribute record with a mugshot.
