South Side (TV series)
PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record
South Side, created by Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle, and Sultan Salahuddin, premiered on Comedy Central on July 24, 2019, and moved to HBO Max for its second and third seasons (2021–2022) — three seasons, twenty-eight episodes, cancelled in February 2023. It is set, with geographic specificity rare in national comedy, in Englewood on Chicago's South Side, around the staff of a rent-to-own shop, and it was filmed on location in the neighborhood it depicts. Its cast was built heavily from Chicago performers and residents, with Chicago guest stars including Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa (CTL-E-1463), and Deon Cole. HBO Max's cancellation statement praised the series' mix of hyperlocal South Side social commentary with broad comedy across its three seasons — an institutional description this record cites rather than paraphrasing into a superlative. In a graph whose scope is Black Chicago first, South Side is the purest entry on the television shelf: not a show about the idea of the South Side, but one made in Englewood, about Englewood, with Englewood's own comedians in the frame.

Notes
Statistics: Comedy Central (2019) → HBO Max (2021–2022); 28 episodes (Wikipedia). Namesake adjudication (Gate A): CTL-E-0224 is the Chicago Neighborhood 'South Side,' not this series — the series was ABSENT and is filed here with the disambiguator. Chicago connection (sourced): filmed on location in, and set in, Englewood; co-created by the Chicago-rooted Salahuddin brothers. Filed as Work/other: schema v0.2.6 carries no television subtype, and none was invented inside this merge (schema changes are a separate, reviewed step). · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Twenty-eight episodes is a short run and a long shadow: South Side treated Englewood as a complete comic universe, which is to say it treated the neighborhood the way this graph insists it be treated — as a place with interior life, not a headline with a zip code. · Photo slot: HELD — poster/key art and production stills for this title are copyrighted studio material and were NOT pulled (per CTL-PHOTO-001 and the wave brief: never force non-free key art); no cleared Commons image was verified for this title in this run. Slot honestly HELD pending a cleared visual.
