Luke Cage (TV series)

CTL-E-5468 · Work · other · 2016–2018

PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record

Luke Cage, created and run by Cheo Hodari Coker and produced by Marvel Television with ABC Studios, premiered on Netflix on September 30, 2016, and released its second and final season on June 22, 2018 — two seasons, twenty-six episodes, the third of Marvel's Netflix series and the street-level Defenders strand's Black-led entry, set in Harlem rather than Hell's Kitchen, with Mike Colter's Cage having debuted in Jessica Jones. Its music was structural: a score and themes by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, episodes built around live musical performance, Harlem's club life functioning as the show's conscience. The series' afterlife is a documented case of streaming-era impermanence — on March 1, 2022, all of the Marvel Netflix series, this one included, left Netflix when the license lapsed, vanishing from the platform that had commissioned them. The graph files Luke Cage as the superhero shelf's Harlem entry: a bulletproof Black hero whose stories were about a neighborhood's rent, policing, and memory, and whose distribution fate is now part of television history itself.

Notes

Statistics: Netflix, 2016–2018; 26 episodes. Streaming note: removed from Netflix March 1, 2022 when the Marvel license lapsed (Inverse) — a preservation-relevant fact for a born-streaming series. Creator Cheo Hodari Coker holds no graph Person record — flagged as a future candidate. Filed as Work/other: schema v0.2.6 carries no television subtype, and none was invented inside this merge (schema changes are a separate, reviewed step). · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: A superhero show whose real subject was whether Harlem could keep itself. Its licensing disappearance is filed in the same record as its premiere, because for streaming-era works the two facts now belong together — a citation graph should notice when the shelf itself can be switched off. · Photo slot: HELD — poster/key art and production stills for this title are copyrighted studio material and were NOT pulled (per CTL-PHOTO-001 and the wave brief: never force non-free key art); no cleared Commons image was verified for this title in this run. Slot honestly HELD pending a cleared visual.
