Trina (born Katrina Laverne Taylor in Miami, Florida — her birth year is reported variously as 1974 and 1975) is Miami's defining female MC, the Southern counterweight to the explicit style Lil' Kim had blown up from Brooklyn. A Liberty City native studying for a real-estate career, she had no musical ambition when Trick Daddy recruited her for "Nann" (1998), which reached number three on Billboard's rap chart. Her debut Da Baddest Bitch (2000) was certified gold within eight months, and she followed it with a run of top-twenty albums — Diamond Princess (2002), Glamorest Life (2005), Still da Baddest (2008) and Amazin' (2010). She led the film A Miami Tail (2003), the role the CTL Short bills, later starred on Love & Hip Hop: Miami, received BET's I Am Hip Hop Award in 2022, and published her memoir Da Baddest in 2024. CultureTechLens profiled Trina in Short #166.
