Killer Mike (born Michael Santiago Render on April 20, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia) is the Adamsville rapper who turned a two-decade underground reputation into a Grammy sweep and an ownership platform. He debuted on Outkast's Stankonia (2000) and won his first Grammy on their "The Whole World" (2003 ceremony), then released Monster (2003) and a run of independent albums before R.A.P. Music (2012), produced by El-P, reset his career; the two formed Run the Jewels in 2013 and released four albums. In 2020 Render co-founded Greenwood, a digital banking platform built for Black and Latino customers — the ownership argument the CTL Short bills — and received Billboard's first Change Maker Award. His autobiographical album Michael (2023), his first solo record in eleven years, swept the rap categories at the February 4, 2024 Grammy Awards: Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for "Scientists & Engineers." CultureTechLens profiled Killer Mike in Short #178.
