Bobby Seale (born Robert George Seale, October 22, 1936, in Dallas, Texas) is an American political activist who co-founded the Black Panther Party and served as its national chairman. After service in the U.S. Air Force, he attended Merritt College in Oakland, California, where his radicalism took root after he heard Malcolm X speak in 1962 and where he met Huey P. Newton. On October 15, 1966, the two founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense and drafted its Ten-Point Program, Seale as chairman and Newton as minister of defense. Indicted as one of the Chicago Eight over protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, Seale was ordered bound and gagged in the courtroom after insisting on his choice of counsel, and was convicted of contempt; a subsequent New Haven murder case ended in a hung jury, and the charges were dismissed in 1971. He ran for mayor of Oakland in 1973, forcing a runoff, and left the party in 1974. This graph has held the party he co-founded (CTL-E-5641) and his co-founder (CTL-E-5391); this record completes the founding pair.

Notes

STAGED 2026-10-16 (747 Program, Priority Gaps — Wave 5) — not merged; awaits founder merge go. Gate A: no match in the live graph (3,381 entities) under exact, normalized, alias, or token-containment screening, 2026-10-16; keyword scan for 'seale' returns zero graph hits — his absence is total, as the Wave 4 packet documented. Vital status: LIVING at staging — the current Britannica biography (updated September 2026) treats him as living, 60th-anniversary coverage ran in October 2026, and no death report appears in any source consulted; he turns 90 on October 22, 2026. Conflict shown, not blended: Britannica, the Los Angeles Sentinel interview and BlackUSA give Dallas, Texas as his birthplace; Black America Web calls him a 'Liberty, Texas native.' The record follows the three-source, higher-authority reading (Dallas) and prints the variant here. A further documented variant concerns his Air Force discharge characterization, which sources describe differently; the record states the service and discharge without adopting either characterization. Project ID: PPL-001, following the Huey P. Newton peer (CTL-E-5391). MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Person records carry no map slot under the media-layer rule; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: No file-page-level PHOTO-001 license verification completed at staging; slot held rather than filled with an u | chart = FILLED (CTL-created SVG built only from this record's sourced facts and statistics; CTL-branded palette (black / deep ) | video = HELD (No CTL Short bills Bobby Seale — Short #183 bills his co-founder Huey P. Newton and rides Newton's record. Arc) | audio = HELD (No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging. Candidate: Seale's speeches in Pacific)
