Ernie Isley (born Ernest Isley, March 7, 1952) is an American guitarist and songwriter, the younger brother whose playing redefined the Isley Brothers' sound. Raised in Cincinnati in a musical household — a young Jimi Hendrix, then a sideman for his brothers, stayed in the family home during Ernie's childhood — he first recorded with the group at 16, playing bass on 'It's Your Thing,' and became a full member in 1973, the year his guitar drove 'That Lady.' Across the group's classic 1970s albums he wrote or co-wrote signature songs including 'Footsteps in the Dark' (1977), on which he played guitar and drums, and '(At Your Best) You Are Love' (1976). After the six-member lineup split in 1984 he returned alongside Ronald Isley in 1991 and performs with the group still. In 2024 the Guitar Center Music Foundation gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award, at which his daughter, singer Alex Isley (CTL-E-5563), performed his '(At Your Best) You Are Love.' Alex Isley's record has carried her child_of edge as blocked since Shorts Wave 2; this record is the father.

Notes

STAGED 2026-10-16 (747 Program, Priority Gaps — Wave 5) — not merged; awaits founder merge go. Gate A: no match in the live graph (3,381 entities) under exact, normalized, alias, or token-containment screening, 2026-10-16; the only 'isley' hit in the graph is his daughter's record (CTL-E-5563).
