Fat Joe (born Joseph Antonio Cartagena on August 19, 1970, in the Bronx, New York) is the rapper who carried the Bronx's Terror Squad from the D.I.T.C. era of New York rap to the top of the pop charts. His solo debut Represent arrived in 1993; Don Cartagena (1998) and the singles 'What's Luv?' (2002) and 'Lean Back' (2004, with Terror Squad) — the latter a Billboard Hot 100 number one — made him a mainstream fixture. In December 2012 he pleaded guilty in federal court to tax evasion, and in 2013 he served a four-month prison sentence arising from failures to pay taxes on income the government put at roughly $3 million across 2007–2010. In May 2025 he launched the podcast Joe and Jada (CTL-E-5598) with fellow rapper Jadakiss, billed by iHeartPodcasts and The Volume.
