Professor X (born Lumumba Carson on August 4, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York; died March 17, 2006) was the orator and ideological anchor of the Brooklyn hip-hop group X-Clan, billed as Professor X the Overseer. The son of Brooklyn activist Sonny 'Abubadika' Carson, he was a founding member of the group and is featured on nearly every song on its two foundational albums, To the East, Blackwards (1990) and Xodus (1992), his interludes framing Brother J's verses with the benediction that the work was protected by the red, the black and the green. He released two solo albums, Years of the 9, on the Blackhand Side and Puss 'N Boots (The Struggle Continues...) (1993). In his own account, preserved in Brian Coleman's hip-hop history reporting, the Blackwatch crew that became the Blackwatch Movement was his idea — a fan base deliberately built into a movement — while his father led the organization. He died in 2006, at 49, of complications of spinal meningitis, the same year X-Clan re-formed without him. He is a different person from the rapper XXXTentacion (CTL-E-5342); the shared token is a documented false artifact, and nothing in this record wires to it.

Notes

STAGED 2026-10-16 (747 Program, Named Remainders & Further Gaps, Batch D) — not merged; awaits founder merge go. Gate A: no match for Lumumba Carson / Professor X the Overseer in the live graph (3,443 entities), 2026-10-16. DEDUPE: XXXTentacion (CTL-E-5342) is a DIFFERENT person; the 'X' token hit is a documented false artifact and no edge to CTL-E-5342 is staged. Vital status: DECEASED — died March 17, 2006 (XXL; The Source; Wikipedia concur) — tribute treatment appears only in the Curator's Judgment (DRAFT) in the companion MD, per the batch standard. CONFLICT CARRIED, NOT BLENDED: solo debut Years of the 9, on the Blackhand Side is dated 1990 in his biographical entries and 1991 in the X-Clan affiliate-release listing; the description therefore carries no year for that album. Photo HELD — see media. MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Person records carry no map slot under the media-layer rule; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: No file-page-level PHOTO-001 license verification completed at staging; slot held rather than filled with an u | chart = FILLED (CTL-created timeline built only from this record's sourced facts; CTL-branded palette (black / deep red / gold) | video = HELD (No CTL Short bills Professor X by name. Short #177 bills X-Clan and the Blackwatch; Short #176 bills Professor) | audio = HELD (No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging. His solo and X-Clan recordings are lab)
