Cam Newton, born Cameron Jerrell Newton on 11 May 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia, is a retired American professional football quarterback and media host. After beginning at Florida and a junior-college season at Blinn, he won the Heisman Trophy and the BCS national championship at Auburn in 2010, then was drafted first overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2011. He won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, setting rookie quarterback records, and in 2015 became the first African American quarterback to win outright the NFL Most Valuable Player award, leading Carolina to a 15–1 record and Super Bowl 50. Injuries diminished his later Carolina seasons; he played for New England in 2020 and returned to Carolina for his final season in 2021, finishing second all-time in quarterback rushing touchdowns. In media, he built his own platforms — the 4th & 1 podcast and Funky Friday — and worked as a First Take analyst for ESPN from 2024 until a July 2026 layoff, after which he continued 4th & 1 as an independent host into October 2026.
