Floyd Mayweather Jr. (born Floyd Joy Sinclair on 24 February 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan) is an American former professional boxer and promoter who retired undefeated and is regarded as one of the finest defensive fighters in boxing history. Born into a boxing family — his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., was a welterweight contender who trained him, and his uncle Roger Mayweather was a world champion — he won three National Golden Gloves titles and a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics before turning professional that year. He won world championships in five weight divisions, from super featherweight to light middleweight, defeating among others Oscar De La Hoya (2007), Canelo Álvarez (2013) and Manny Pacquiao (2015), the richest bout in boxing history. He retired in August 2017 after stopping Conor McGregor, closing his professional record at 50 wins, no losses, 27 by knockout, and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2021. Since retiring he has boxed a series of exhibitions; a much-publicized 2026 exhibition with Mike Tyson and a professional rematch with Pacquiao were both announced and then postponed during 2026, leaving his professional record untouched.
