Gervonta Davis (born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1994) is an American professional boxer, nicknamed 'Tank,' who has won world championships in three weight divisions and built one of the highest knockout ratios of his era. Raised in West Baltimore, he was for a time the leading name of the Mayweather Promotions stable and won his first world title, at super featherweight, in 2017. He added titles at lightweight and super lightweight, and in April 2023 stopped Ryan Garcia in the seventh round of one of the biggest fights of the decade. On 1 March 2025 at Barclays Center he retained his WBA lightweight title in a majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr., the first blemish on his record, and he has not fought since; in 2026 coverage he was reported as a champion-in-recess while a return was discussed for 2027. Legal record, stated neutrally: Davis pleaded guilty in February 2023 to four counts arising from a November 2020 Baltimore hit-and-run crash and was sentenced in May 2023 to 90 days of home detention, three years of probation and 200 hours of community service; later matters are treated here as procedural only.
