Floyd Mayweather Sr. (born Floyd Joy Mayweather on 19 October 1952 in Amory, Mississippi) is an American former professional welterweight boxer and one of boxing's most influential trainers. Fighting from the mid-1970s to 1990, he compiled 28 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw, was noted for defensive skill, and won a U.S. Championship Tournament contest in 1977. In 1978 Sugar Ray Leonard stopped him in the tenth round, and months later he was shot in the leg in a family dispute while holding his infant son, an injury that curtailed his career. He taught that son, Floyd Mayweather Jr., to box from toddlerhood and served as his trainer and manager — a tenure interrupted by a 1993 cocaine-trafficking conviction and a five-and-a-half-year federal prison sentence, a falling-out in 2000, and a reunion in 2013. Preaching defense, a stiff jab and the shoulder roll, he also trained Oscar De La Hoya from 2001 to 2006, as well as Chad Dawson, Joan Guzman and Laila Ali. He is living, reported in 2026 coverage as retired from full-time training and only fleetingly overseeing duties at the Mayweather gym in Las Vegas.

Notes
Staged 2026-10-16 under CTL-GOV-006 (Census Intake Wave 4 — 747 Program, Wave 10; 40-record packet). Gate A (2026-10-16): no Floyd Mayweather Sr. entity in the live graph at 3,683 entities (exact / normalized / alias + token containment; the only Mayweather-name search returned no hits); ID CTL-E-6004 assigned at assembly. Supply: 747 Supply Ledger, Tier 3 — Famous Birthdays ABSENT census, readiness rank 1206 (Boxers list). The census supplied the NAME ONLY; no fact in this record is sourced to it (CTL-GOV-004). SCOPE GATE: PASS — African American boxer and trainer; Black American identity is a matter of public record across career coverage of the Mayweather boxing family of Grand Rapids and Las Vegas. Vital status: LIVING — present-tense 2026 reporting (World Boxing News, framed around spring 2026) describing him as a retired coach fleetingly overseeing duties at the Mayweather gym in Las Vegas and recounting a BBC interview. PROVISIONAL GAP: no Britannica, International Boxing Hall of Fame, The Ring or major-newspaper profile was secured for this record in this pass, and the 2026 vital-status evidence is trade-press tier; the core career facts are supported by Sports Illustrated (SI Vault), BoxRec and career summaries, and the record is staged Provisional until an authoritative-tier source is added. Father-son fact documented for central assembly: Floyd Mayweather Sr. is the father and former trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (CTL-E-5996, staged in Batch E of this wave); the child_of edge runs from the son to the father and is assembled centrally, not in this packet. Note on sources: BoxRec's wiki entry lists a Bronx birthplace while Wikipedia and birthday references list Amory, Mississippi; this record follows Amory and flags the conflict rather than blending it. STATISTICS (sourced, dated): Professional record 28 wins (18 by knockout), 6 losses, 1 draw, career mid-1970s–1990 (Wikipedia record summary and Boxing Insider, accessed 2026-10-16). MEDIA: photo HELD (candidate: Wikimedia Commons photograph of Floyd Mayweather Sr. (2009 ringside/training portrait referenced in career profiles); no file page read at file-page level — CTL-PHOTO-001; CTL-created graphic is the standing alternative); chart FILLED (charts/chart-ctl-e-6004-floyd-mayweather-sr.svg); video HELD (Shorts Link Map checked — no matching CTL Short); audio HELD (no rights basis). MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Person records carry no map slot under the media-layer rule; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: | chart = FILLED (CTL-created SVG (black / deep red / gold) built only from this record's sourced facts) | video = HELD (No matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map catalog (checked by name and variants), and no official/em) | audio = HELD (No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio at staging; the subject's own recordings/appearances are )
