Combined Graph record U-07278 · provenance: build store (JSON graph), record CTL-E-6055.

Laurie Hernandez, born 9 June 2000 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Puerto Rican parents and raised in Old Bridge Township, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She won the U.S. junior all-around titles at the 2015 U.S. Classic and national championships, then at Rio 2016, at sixteen, helped the “Final Five” win the team gold medal and took an individual silver medal on balance beam. Later in 2016 she won Dancing with the Stars, the show's youngest champion. Hernandez identifies as Afro-Latina: in a published interview she described embracing her Afro-Boricua roots and said she identifies as Afro-Latina, a self-identification this record rests on for its scope basis. She attempted a comeback before retiring on 6 June 2021, then built a second career as an author of two New York Times best-sellers, an NBC gymnastics analyst at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, a UNICEF USA Ambassador, and a stage performer — making her Broadway debut in & Juliet in spring 2026 and performing Off-Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in autumn 2026.

Notes

Staged 2026-10-16 under CTL-GOV-006 (Census Intake Wave 5 — 747 Program, Wave 11; 40-record packet). Gate A (2026-10-16): no Laurie Hernandez entity in the live graph at 3,763 entities (exact / normalized / alias + token containment; the graph's Hernandez hits are other people); ID CTL-E-6055 assigned at assembly. Supply: 747 Supply Ledger, Tier 3 — Famous Birthdays ABSENT census, readiness rank 1240 (Gymnasts list). The census supplied the NAME ONLY; no fact in this record is sourced to it (CTL-GOV-004). SCOPE GATE: PASS — descent-documentation gate satisfied at the individual level: in a HipLatina interview Hernandez states in her own words that she identifies as Afro-Latina and embraces her Afro-Boricua roots; this is the citable individual document the gate requires, so the record is Verified rather than rejected under the Wave 4 Puerto Rican precedents (Gómez, Colón), where no such document existed. Vital status: LIVING — performing Off-Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee through 11 Oct 2026 after a spring 2026 Broadway debut in & Juliet (BroadwayWorld, 20 Sep 2026; BuzzFeed interview, 24 Sep 2026); retired from gymnastics 6 June 2021. STATISTICS (sourced, dated): Rio 2016 — team gold (Final Five) and balance beam silver (Britannica); 2015 U.S. junior all-around champion at the U.S. Classic and nationals (Britannica); Dancing with the Stars season 23 winner at 16, the show's youngest champion (Simple Wikipedia). MEDIA: photo HELD (candidate: Wikimedia Commons photograph of Laurie Hernandez at the 2016 Rio Olympics; no file page was read at file-page level in this pass, so no image is cleared — CTL-PHOTO-001; a CTL-created graphic is the standing alternative); chart FILLED (charts/chart-temp-1240-laurie-hernandez.svg); video HELD (Shorts Link Map checked by name and variants — no matching-entity CTL Short); audio HELD (no rights basis). MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Person records carry no map slot under the media-layer rule; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: | chart = FILLED (CTL-created SVG (black / deep red / gold) built only from this record's sourced facts) | video = HELD (No matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map catalog (checked by name and variants), and no official/em) | audio = HELD (No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio at staging; the subject's own recordings/appearances are )
