LaVar Christopher Ball, born 23 October 1967 in Los Angeles, California, is an American businessman and media personality, the co-founder and chief executive of the sports apparel company Big Baller Brand and the founder of the Junior Basketball Association. A former college basketball player at West Los Angeles College, Washington State and Cal State Los Angeles, he also spent time on the practice squads of the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers and played for the London Monarchs, without appearing in an NFL regular-season game. He co-founded Big Baller Brand in 2016 as his sons Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo rose through Chino Hills High School, launched the Junior Basketball Association in 2017 as an alternative route for high-school graduates, and fronted the family's Facebook Watch series Ball in the Family. In February 2025 he underwent amputation of his right foot and part of his lower right leg after a diabetes-related infection, describing three surgeries and four blood transfusions in a first-person account for SLAM. By the summer of 2026 he was again speaking publicly as the brand's head, saying in July 2026 that he had refused an offer to take Big Baller Brand public.
