Joe Budden, born Joseph Anthony Budden II on August 31, 1980, in New York City and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, is an American broadcaster and former rapper. He broke through in 2003 with the single "Pump It Up", which reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rap Solo Performance. His self-titled debut album, released by Def Jam Recordings on June 10, 2003, debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200. After disagreements shelved his intended second Def Jam album and he left the label in 2007, Budden released a run of independent albums and performed with the supergroup Slaughterhouse, which signed with Eminem's Shady Records and released two studio albums. He began hosting The Joe Budden Podcast in 2015, co-hosted Complex's Everyday Struggle in 2017, and hosted State of the Culture on Revolt from 2018 to 2020. Budden retired from recording in 2018 to concentrate on broadcasting, and he has been described as the Howard Stern of hip-hop.
