Ainsley Denzil Dubriel Harriott, born 28 February 1957 in Paddington, London, is an English chef, television presenter and author of Jamaican heritage. The son of Chester Harriott, a Jamaican-born pianist and singer, he trained at Westminster Kingsway College, worked in West End kitchens and became head chef of the Long Room at Lord's Cricket Ground, while performing in the comedy-music duo the Calypso Twins. Television made him one of Britain's most recognisable cooks: resident chef on Good Morning with Anne and Nick, then presenter of Can't Cook, Won't Cook and, from 2000 to 2010, Ready Steady Cook, whose twenty-one series fixed his exuberant style in the national memory. His cookbooks have sold more than two million copies worldwide. He has spoken publicly about being refused head-chef jobs in his early career explicitly because he was Black. Appointed MBE in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to broadcasting and the culinary arts, he continues to front ITV food series including Ainsley's Fantastic Flavours, and was still making festival and store appearances in the summer of 2026.
