Combined Graph record U-07715 · provenance: build store (JSON graph), record CTL-E-6843.

Wilber Marshall was a hard-hitting linebacker whose first four NFL seasons, with the Chicago Bears, placed him at the center of one of the most celebrated defenses in league history. Born April 18, 1962, in Titusville, Florida, Marshall played college football for the Florida Gators, where he was twice recognized as a consensus All-American, and was selected by the Bears in the first round of the 1984 NFL Draft, eleventh overall. In Chicago he joined Mike Singletary and Otis Wilson in the linebacker corps of the 1985 Bears, who finished 15–1 and defeated the New England Patriots 46–10 in Super Bowl XX. Marshall earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors with the Bears before leaving for Washington in 1988 as a free agent, where he won a second championship in Super Bowl XXVI; he later played for Houston, Arizona and the New York Jets before finishing his career in 1995. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0436. Note the spelling 'Wilber' (one 'l' in the first syllable) is the correct form used by the sources. Grade is Provisional under GOV-004 as applied in this pass: two independent sources verified, but none from the named authoritative tier (Pro Football Hall of Fame, NFL.com, Britannica) among the URLs retrieved, and no lawful subject photograph was found on Wikimedia Commons. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Marshall's four Chicago seasons are short but load-bearing — a first-round Bears pick who started on the Super Bowl XX defense and then won a second ring in Washington; CTL should prioritize a rights-clean playing-era image for this record.
