Raphael Warnock
VERIFIED evidence grade of this record
Raphael Gamaliel Warnock (born July 23, 1969, in Savannah, Georgia) is the United States senator from Georgia and, since 2005, the senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta — the pulpit once held by Martin Luther King Jr. and his father. A Morehouse College graduate who earned his doctorate at Union Theological Seminary, Warnock pastored in Baltimore before Ebenezer called him as its fifth senior pastor. He entered the Senate by winning Georgia's January 5, 2021, runoff against Senator Kelly Loeffler, taking office on January 20, 2021, as the first Black senator in Georgia history and the first Black Democrat elected to the Senate from a Southern state. In 2022 he led Herschel Walker in the November general election, 49.4 percent to 48.5, and won the December 6, 2022, runoff for a full term. Warnock holds his two callings in one biography — the King pulpit and the King-era seat Georgia had never before given a Black citizen. With Scott, Booker, Blunt Rochester, and Alsobrooks, he completes the five — the most Black senators ever to serve simultaneously.

Notes
Statistics: Runoff victory January 5, 2021; assumed office January 20, 2021; full term won December 6, 2022 (Wikipedia). Senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church since 2005. Filed as Person/politician; his clergy calling is carried in the description (the schema assigns one subtype). · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Warnock is the timeline's rhyme made flesh: the movement's church produced the senator, and the senator still preaches. The record keeps both jobs in the same paragraph because in this one life they are the same job description — representation, in both houses of the word. · Photo slot: CLEARED CANDIDATE — Wikimedia Commons File:Raphael Warnock official photo.jpg, Public domain (U.S. Senate Photographic Studio, Rebecca Hammel), license verified from Commons API metadata on 2026-10-15; not downloaded — visual pass follows merge per standing pattern.
