VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

Angela Deneece Alsobrooks (born February 23, 1971, in Suitland, Maryland) is the United States senator from Maryland. A Duke University and University of Maryland law graduate, she was elected Prince George's County State's Attorney in 2010, serving from January 3, 2011, to December 3, 2018, and then won the county executive's office — the first woman to hold it, and the first Black woman county executive in Maryland history — serving from December 3, 2018, to December 2, 2024. In November 2024 she defeated former Governor Larry Hogan in the general election for Maryland's open Senate seat, succeeding Ben Cardin, and was sworn in on January 3, 2025, as the first Black senator in Maryland history and the third Black woman ever elected to the United States Senate. Her election, with Lisa Blunt Rochester's in Delaware the same night, raised the number of Black senators serving simultaneously to five — the most in American history, and the spine of this record set. With Scott, Booker, Warnock, and Blunt Rochester, she completes the five.

The record

Notes

Statistics: Sworn into the Senate January 3, 2025 (Wikipedia). First Black senator from Maryland; third Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate. Birthplace note (GOV-004): the intake brief suggested Hyattsville; every source located gives Suitland, Maryland, and Suitland is what the record carries — the discrepancy is logged here rather than silently resolved. · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Alsobrooks's record is a study in the long county road: prosecutor, then county executive, then the Senate — each office a Maryland first of some kind, none of them inherited. The graph files her with the other four because history seated them together, and the together is the fact. · Photo slot: CLEARED CANDIDATE — Wikimedia Commons File:Sen. Angela Alsobrooks official Senate photo, 119th Congress.jpg, Public domain (United States Senate), license verified from Commons API metadata on 2026-10-15; not downloaded — visual pass follows merge per standing pattern.
