Black-ish

CTL-E-5454 · Work · other · 2014–2022

PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record

Black-ish, created by Kenya Barris, aired on ABC from September 24, 2014, to April 19, 2022 — eight seasons, 176 episodes following Andre and Rainbow Johnson and their children in affluent suburban Los Angeles, where success itself became the series' recurring question: what does a Black family owe its history once it can afford to forget it? The show was reported at its rise as the first broadcast comedy in years built around a Black family, and it carried the form back to the center of network television. Its honors are institutional: a Peabody Award in 2016 for its second season — a distinction rarely given to a broadcast family sitcom — a Golden Globe for Tracee Ellis Ross in 2017, repeated Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, and, per ABC, a sweep of the NAACP Image Awards' television comedy categories in 2019, including a fifth consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series win. It spun off Grown-ish and Mixed-ish, an entire franchise from one family's dinner table. The graph files it as the 2010s' anchor: the broadcast Black sitcom, restored and self-interrogating.

Notes

Statistics: ABC, 2014–2022; 176 episodes (Wikipedia). Staged edge: authored_by Kenya Barris (CTL-E-4799), the series' creator. Filed as Work/other: schema v0.2.6 carries no television subtype, and none was invented inside this merge (schema changes are a separate, reviewed step). · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Black-ish asked the Huxtable question from inside the answer: the house, the jobs, the schools — now what is owed? Eight seasons on a broadcast network made it the decade's seminar on Black success, held weekly, with jokes as the tuition. · Photo slot: HELD — poster/key art and production stills for this title are copyrighted studio material and were NOT pulled (per CTL-PHOTO-001 and the wave brief: never force non-free key art); no cleared Commons image was verified for this title in this run. Slot honestly HELD pending a cleared visual.
