Proviso East High School is a public secondary school at 807 South First Avenue in Maywood, Illinois, the original campus of Proviso Township High Schools District 209. It opened in 1911 as Proviso Township High School and took the East name in 1958, when the district split its growing enrollment with the new Proviso West High School. The school, whose teams are the Pirates, serves Maywood and the neighboring villages of Broadview, Forest Park, and Melrose Park. Its alumni line runs from astronaut Eugene Cernan and linebacker Ray Nitschke to civil rights leader Fred Hampton and one of the deepest basketball alumni lists in Illinois: the school won its first state basketball championship in 1969, and its graduates include Jim Brewer, Michael Finley, and Glenn "Doc" Rivers, class of 1980, whose jersey is displayed at the school. In the 2010 NBA Finals, three Proviso East graduates — Rivers coaching Boston, Finley playing for Boston, and Shannon Brown playing for Los Angeles — appeared in the same series. Enrollment was reported at 1,663 students for 2024–25.

Notes
STAGED 2026-10-16 (747 Program, Named Remainders & Further Gaps, Batch A) — not merged; awaits founder merge go. Gate A: PASS — no graph record under the name. Peer model: Simeon Career Academy (CTL-E-5491), INST-001. Source conflict SHOWN, not blended: the school reference gives 'opened 1911' (cornerstone laid January 21, 1911), while the Forest Park Review's alumni history says the school 'was founded in 1910' — the description carries 1911 as the opening year and this note carries the 1910 founding claim; a merge editor should not silently harmonize them. A second address form, 803 S. 1st Ave., appears in 2021 event coverage of the school; the standing address carried is 807 South First Avenue per the school reference and district usage. Edges staged: has_alumnus to CTL-E-5511 (Doc Rivers) — the edge the Sports Bench packet documented as blocked. Map: FILLED (see media). Photo: HELD. Relationships
- Doc Rivers — has alumnus
Glenn 'Doc' Rivers, raised in Maywood, starred at Proviso East High School and graduated in the class of 1980 (graph record CTL-E-5511; ESPN, June 10, 2010). The Sports Bench packet documented this has_alumnus edge (School→Person) as blocked on the missing school endpoint; this packet supplies it.
