Flipmode Squad is the Brooklyn hip-hop collective formed and fronted by Busta Rhymes. Busta Rhymes first introduced the name in 1993, while he was still a member of Leaders of the New School, with an early lineup built around Rampage; the best-known lineup — Busta Rhymes, Rampage, Lord Have Mercy, Rah Digga, Baby Sham and Spliff Star — first appeared together as Flipmode Squad on his album The Coming in 1996. The crew released its debut, The Imperial Album, on Elektra in 1998, and members balanced crew work with solo releases, among them Rampage's Scouts Honor... by Way of Blood (1997) and Rah Digga's Dirty Harriet. In 2000 the camp moved to J Records, and Lord Have Mercy left the Squad to pursue a solo career. A second crew album, Rulership Movement, is listed in AllMusic's discography as a 2002 J Records release; the group's history as carried by Wikipedia says it was set for 2003 and never released after a label change. That conflict is shown in this packet, not resolved. The Flipmode name and roster later fed into Busta Rhymes's successor camp, The Conglomerate.
