Aletha Maybank is a pediatrician who in 2019 became the inaugural chief health equity officer of the American Medical Association, founding and leading its Center for Health Equity. She came to the AMA from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, where she directed the Center for Health Equity and its neighborhood health action centers. Her work centers embedding equity into the standards, data, and practice of American medicine.
