VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

Al Green (born Albert Leornes Greene, April 13, 1946, in Forrest City, Arkansas) is an American singer, songwriter, and pastor whose work with producer Willie Mitchell at Memphis’s Hi Records defined early-1970s soul. Raised in a gospel-singing family, later of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Green signed with Hi in 1969; Mitchell coached him away from imitation toward the soft, falsetto-touched voice that became his signature. A run of albums — Al Green Gets Next to You (1971), Let’s Stay Together (1972), I’m Still in Love with You (1972), and Call Me (1973) — produced “Tired of Being Alone,” “Let’s Stay Together,” “I’m Still in Love with You,” and “Love and Happiness,” recorded with the Hi Rhythm Section at Royal Studios. Ordained as a pastor, he turned to gospel in the 1980s, later returning to secular recording. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted him in 1995, calls him “one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music.” He has won 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
