Mariah the Scientist
VERIFIED evidence grade of this record
Atlanta singer and songwriter who walked out of a biology program and into R&B carrying a scientist's name and a diarist's pen. Mariah Amani Buckles was born on October 27, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia, graduated from high school a year early, and left St. John's University in New York, where she had studied biology toward a career in medicine, to pursue music. Her six-track EP To Die For, released on SoundCloud in January 2018, led to a deal with RCA Records and the debut album Master (2019), followed by Ry Ry World (2021) and the 2022 project Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission, whose ballad Spread Thin became a multi-platinum signature. Moving to Epic Records, she released To Be Eaten Alive (2023), her first album to enter the Billboard 200. Her fourth album, Hearts Sold Separately (2025), was led by Burning Blue, which debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 as her highest-charting single, and Is It a Crime, a collaboration with Kali Uchis.

Notes
Statistics: Born October 27, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia (AllMusic biography, accessed October 15, 2026) · Burning Blue debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2025, her highest-charting single (Billboard, June 2025) · To Be Eaten Alive (2023) was her first Billboard 200 entry (AllMusic) · CONFLICT DROPPED: the album's Billboard 200 peak is given as No. 41 in one summary and No. 93 in another, so no peak position is asserted · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — Mariah the Scientist writes love songs like lab reports from inside the experiment — controlled phrasing, volatile contents. CTL files her as Atlanta's leading alternative-R&B stylist of the 2020s, whose slow-build catalog converted on her own timetable with Hearts Sold Separately. · Photo slot: CLEARED — Wikimedia Commons File:Mariah the Scientist performing in Los Angeles.png, the CwE, CC BY 3.0, verified via Commons API 2026-10-15; direct URL https://thumb.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/22/Mariah_the_Scientist_performing_in_Los_Angeles.png/1920px-Mariah_the_Scientist_performing_in_Los_Angeles.png?utm_source=commons.wikimedia.org&utm_campaign=imageinfo&utm_content=thumbnail; master in packet photos/.
