Snowfall

CTL-E-5463 · Work · other · 2017–2023

PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record

Snowfall, created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron — Andron serving as showrunner — aired on FX from July 5, 2017, to April 19, 2023: six seasons, sixty episodes that began as a 2014 Showtime project before FX picked it up. Set at the onset of the crack epidemic in 1980s South Central Los Angeles, it braided three storylines — a young dealer, Franklin Saint, building an empire; a CIA operative moving money and cocaine toward the Nicaraguan Contras; and the cartel families supplying both — making federal complicity a structural element of the plot rather than a background suggestion. Its premiere ranked among the top five new cable drama premieres of 2017 in key demographics. It was Singleton's final major television work: production of the third season continued after his death in 2019, and the series ran six years as his sustained argument that the epidemic was a policy outcome with authors, not a weather event. The graph files Snowfall as the prestige shelf's reckoning with the crack era — the dramatic counterpart to the documentary record, told by the filmmaker who had opened the hood-film era a generation earlier.

Notes

Statistics: FX, 2017–2023; 60 episodes (Wikipedia). Co-creator John Singleton holds no graph Person record — flagged as a future candidate (he recurs across this wave: Boyz n the Hood, CTL-E-5480), not minted in this Works wave. Filed as Work/other: schema v0.2.6 carries no television subtype, and none was invented inside this merge (schema changes are a separate, reviewed step). · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Singleton spent thirty years filming the same few square miles, and Snowfall is his longest look: the epidemic narrated as a supply chain with signatures on it. The record honors the structure — three strands, one indictment. · Photo slot: HELD — poster/key art and production stills for this title are copyrighted studio material and were NOT pulled (per CTL-PHOTO-001 and the wave brief: never force non-free key art); no cleared Commons image was verified for this title in this run. Slot honestly HELD pending a cleared visual.
