Grambling State University is a public, historically Black university in Grambling, Louisiana, and a member of the University of Louisiana System. It opened on November 1, 1901, as the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School, founded by the North Louisiana Colored Agricultural Relief Association, a group of Black farmers organized in 1896 who wanted a school for African Americans in the northern part of the state, where almost none existed. At the association's request, Booker T. Washington sent Tuskegee graduate Charles P. Adams, who became the school's founding president and served thirty-five years. The school moved to its present site in 1905, became a state junior college in 1928 as the Louisiana Negro Normal and Industrial Institute, awarded its first baccalaureate degree in 1944, and became Grambling College in 1946. Graduate programs brought university status and the present name in 1974. Grambling's Tigers compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and its football program under coach Eddie G. Robinson, who led the team from 1941 to 1997, made the university nationally known; the campus is listed on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail.

Notes

Staged 2026-10-16 under CTL-GOV-006 (Scan Tail Wave 3 — 747 Program, Wave 10; third Scan Tail packet at the founder's 40-record size). Gate A (2026-10-16): no Grambling State University entity in the live graph at 3,683 entities (exact / normalized / alias + token containment); ID CTL-E-6007 free. Supply: 747 Supply Ledger, Tier 4 — Scan Tail Wave 2 packet ordered reserve, position 2 of 25 (corpus-gap-candidates-2026-10-15.json ranked clean survivor #902). The scan supplied the NAME STRING ONLY; no fact in this record is sourced to it (CTL-GOV-004). SCOPE GATE: PASS — north Louisiana's founding HBCU, built by a Black farmers' association; core Black-education scope, paired in this batch with Southern University (CTL-E-6006). Vital status: n/a (School; operating institution). STATISTICS (sourced, dated): Opened November 1, 1901 (gram.edu). Eddie Robinson's career record at Grambling: 408 wins, 165 losses, 15 ties, retiring after 1997 (Smithsonian NMAAHC). CONFLICT SHOWN, NOT BLENDED: the university's own history page dates its first SACS accreditation to 1949, while the university's own fact-book highlights timeline consulted in this pass gives initial SACS accreditation in 1953 and full membership in 1958 — both datings are the institution's, and neither is silently preferred here. MEDIA: photo HELD (Grambling State University campus entrance sign or Long-Jones Hall photograph named as candidate; no file-page verification in this pass); chart FILLED (charts/chart-ctl-e-6007-grambling-state-university.svg); video HELD (no matching-entity CTL Short or verified-rights archival video staged); audio HELD (no rights-cleared matching-entity audio staged). MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Non-place record; no map attaches at the entity layer.) | visual_assets = HELD: | chart = FILLED (CTL-created SVG (black / deep red / gold) built only from this record's sourced facts) | video = HELD (No matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map catalog (checked by name and variants), and no official/em) | audio = HELD (No audiobook excerpt or author recording with a CTL rights basis was staged in this pass.)
