VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

Dr. Dre, born Andre Romelle Young on February 18, 1965, in Compton, California, is an American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur whose work shaped West Coast hip-hop across three distinct chapters. First, as a founding member of N.W.A, whose Straight Outta Compton (1988) broke gangsta rap nationally, Dre's layered production carried the group's records, and N.W.A was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Second, as a solo artist: after co-founding Death Row Records, his debut The Chronic (1992) popularized G-funk and won a Grammy for 'Let Me Ride,' and 2001 (1999) and Compton (2015) completed a spare, three-album solo catalog. Third, as a producer-executive: he founded Aftermath Entertainment in 1996 and signed or developed Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar, whom he signed in 2012. With Jimmy Iovine he co-founded Beats Electronics, which Apple acquired in 2014 in a deal reported at about three billion dollars, and he has remained a central, if selective, production presence since.

The record

Notes

Statistics: 7 Grammy wins from 26 nominations (Grammy.com artist page, accessed 2026-10-15); older profiles citing 6 wins predate his 2020 win as producer/mixer on Anderson .Paak's Ventura · Solo studio albums: 3 — The Chronic (1992, Billboard 200 No. 3 per Grammy.com), 2001 (1999) and Compton (2015), distinct from 2 N.W.A studio albums and his production work for others · Beats: Apple acquired Beats in 2014 for about $3 billion (Grammy.com honors profile); Forbes at the time estimated Dre's 2014 pre-tax earnings at $620 million and his net worth at about $550 million, so contemporary Forbes reporting did NOT make him a billionaire despite his own 'first billionaire in hip-hop' claim in a pre-announcement video — later Forbes billionaire-list claims are dated separately and are not asserted here as a 2014 fact · N.W.A inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 8, 2016, inducted by Kendrick Lamar (SPIN, April 2016) · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Dre is three careers in one record — group producer, solo auteur, and talent architect — and CTL's value is keeping those ledgers separate instead of collapsing them into a mogul myth. The Beats fortune matters, but the graph's center of gravity is the production lineage from N.W.A through Kendrick Lamar. · Photo slot: CLEARED CANDIDATE — Wikimedia Commons File:Dr. Dre in 2011.jpg, Commondr3ads, CC BY-SA 3.0, license verified from Commons API metadata on 2026-10-15; direct URL https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/Dr._Dre_in_2011.jpg; not downloaded — visual pass follows merge per standing pattern.
