VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

Playboi Carti, born Jordan Terrell Carter in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American rapper whose atmospheric, repetition-driven style helped define the rage strand of modern trap. He began releasing music as Sir Cartier in 2011, signed with Atlanta's Awful Records, and then joined A$AP Rocky's AWGE imprint in 2016. His self-titled debut mixtape in 2017, containing Magnolia, reached number twelve on the Billboard 200. The debut studio album Die Lit followed in 2018 and debuted at number three. Whole Lotta Red, released on Christmas Day 2020, became his first number-one album and was later placed by Rolling Stone among the greatest hip-hop albums. After featured turns including Travis Scott's Fein and the number-one single Carnival with Ye and Ty Dolla Sign, his third studio album Music arrived in 2025 and became his second consecutive Billboard 200 number one. In 2019 Carter founded the Opium label and collective, signing artists including Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely and extending his influence through a younger generation of performers.

The record

Notes

Statistics: Whole Lotta Red debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 100,000 album-equivalent units (uDiscover, reporting Billboard data, accessed 2026-10-15); Die Lit debuted at No. 3 per AllMusic/Wikipedia summaries. CONFLICT NOTED: Carter's birth year is reported as 1995 in some sources and 1996 in others, and the exact birth date also varies; era therefore opens with the more commonly listed 1995 and the conflict is recorded rather than hidden. · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — Less a lyricist in the traditional sense than a vocal designer; Whole Lotta Red's abrasive, chant-based method reorganised what a rap album could sound like for the artists who followed. · Photo slot: CLEARED — Wikimedia Commons File:Playboi Carti, Clout Festival 2024 05 (cropped).jpg, Wojciech Pędzich, CC BY 4.0, verified via Commons API 2026-10-15; direct URL https://thumb.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0f/Playboi_Carti%2C_Clout_Festival_2024_05_%28cropped%29.jpg/1920px-Playboi_Carti%2C_Clout_Festival_2024_05_%28cropped%29.jpg; master in packet photos/.
