Pharrell Williams
VERIFIED evidence grade of this record
Pharrell Lanscilo Williams, born in Virginia Beach on April 5, 1973, met Chad Hugo in school band and, with him, built the Neptunes into the defining production team of early-2000s pop and hip-hop, reshaping the sound of records for Jay-Z, Nelly, Britney Spears, and many others with spare, percussive, futuristic arrangements. With Hugo and Shay Haley he fronted the band N.E.R.D., and in 2003 he stepped forward as a solo artist with 'Frontin',' featuring Jay-Z, followed by the albums In My Mind in 2006 and G I R L in 2014. His 2013 run was historic in scale: featured turns on Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' and Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines,' and his own 'Happy,' written for Despicable Me 2, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and carried G I R L to the top of the charts. The Recording Academy credits him with thirteen Grammy Awards, including three Producer of the Year, Non-Classical honors, and he has earned two Academy Award nominations, for 'Happy' and as a producer of Hidden Figures. Beyond records, Williams built Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream, the creative collective i am OTHER, education and entrepreneurship nonprofits including YELLOW and Black Ambition, the Something in the Water festival in his hometown, and, from 2023, the men's creative directorship of Louis Vuitton — a producer's career expanded into a cultural institution.

Notes
Statistics: Born April 5, 1973, Virginia Beach; Neptunes formed with Chad Hugo in the early 1990s; solo debut single 'Frontin'' (feat. Jay-Z) reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2003; 13 Grammy Awards including 3 Producer of the Year, Non-Classical; 43 Grammy nominations (Recording Academy, accessed 2026-10-15); Louis Vuitton men's creative director since 2023. · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — Williams is CTL's model of the producer as author and institution-builder: the Neptunes' minimalism rewired pop's rhythm section, and his second act turned hitmaking capital into schools, festivals, and fashion houses. · Photo slot: CLEARED — Wikimedia Commons File:Pharrell Williams 2024 (54133384149).jpg, Web Summit / Ramsey Cardy, CC BY 2.0, verified via Commons API 2026-10-15; direct URL https://thumb.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4f/Pharrell_Williams_2024_%2854133384149%29.jpg/1280px-Pharrell_Williams_2024_%2854133384149%29.jpg; master in packet photos/pharrell-williams.jpg.
